Tournament Information

Who may participate?

Gothia Cup China is an open tournament and welcomes all football teams.

The tournament begins with a group play. Teams are divided into groups of four or five, where all teams are playing each other once. The first and second team of the group qualify for Play off A, the other teams of the group for Play off B. The tournament is played under all applicable FIFA or Chinese FA rules. All players must be insured, both for games and leisure time. Arrival for all teams is on 12th-13th August. Opening ceremony is on 13th August. Kick-off for the group round games is on August 14.

Number of players per team

There is no limit to the number of players in each team. However only 7 substitutes are allowed in each match of 11-a-side. In classes B12, B11,B10 and G12 you are allowed to have unlimited number of players during a single match, but only 7 on the playing field simultaneously. All players must be able to show proof of age and identity.

All players use the same shirt number throughout the tournament.


Dispensations will automatically be given to two players per squad who are maximum one year over aged (11 a side).  Dispensations will automatically be given to one players per squad who are maximum one year over aged (7 a side).   Note that in 11-a-side categories you can’t have more than two over aged players on the players list, i.e. you can’t switch them between matches.Note that in 7-a-side categories you can’t have more than one over aged players on the players list, i.e. you can’t switch them between matches.In classes B16 and G16 teams from countries that still use the 1st of August limit (mainly USA and England) may also use players 5 months over aged.

Girls may play in boys teams in all classes as long as the regulations for age categories are followed.

Categories of participation

Category A- Dormitory Accommodation:
August 12-19. Minimum one, maximum four leaders per team may stay in the university. Everyone staying at the dormitories has to pay the accommodation cost.  The Gothia Card is included in the fee.  The first meal is dinner on August 12 and the last meal is lunch on August 19. NOTE: If your team must arrive before or leave after these dates, you must contact Gothia Cup China. Extra night fee 6 EUR/8 USD/pers/night.

Category B- Hotel Accommodation:
Only for booking through the Gothia Cup China. 3 Meals and Gothia wristband is included in the prices. Contact for pricing and availability. 

The Gothia Wristband includes

  • Free travels within the city on public buses. 
  • Free travels with the Gothia Line to and from the fields.
  • Free admittance or discounted admittance to most of Shenyang’s leading tourist attractions.
  • Free entry to the Opening ceremony.


Return transfer between airport/train station in Shenyang and your place of accommodation is included in the accommodation cost. Note that there is only one return transfer per team/group of teams.The transfer is exclusively for teams, thus NOT for accompanying people.Transfer can only be booked for minimum 10 people per group.

Leader Plus card

Each team receives two Team Leader Cards, giving entry to the Gothia Leaders Party, a Gothia Cup Coach T-shirt and entrance to Gothia Leaders Lounge at the main arena.

Extra nights

For teams that have travel arrangements that require extra nights before or after the tournament, this can be arranged (maximum 3 nights). No meals are included during the extra nights. The cost per night is EURO 6 (USD 8).

Dormitory accommodation

We reserve us the right during the tournament to move a team from their dormitory accommodation to be lodge in another dormitory.For teams with dormitory accommodation the team manager as indicated on the Participants’ list is responsible for the team´s players behaviour at the dormitory. Please read the Regulations for accommodation in the Official Regulations.

Insurances, responsibility

Make sure that all your players are insured both on and off the playing field. The Gothia Cup China does not carry any group insurance protecting participants in case of injury, illness, theft or damage to property. Participants from countries that have no medical insurance agreement with China must have personal medical insurance.



Each player will receive a diploma. For teams reaching the finals, each player will receive a medal, and the teams the specially designed Gothia Cup trophy. For teams reaching the finals in the B play-off there will be medals and a trophy. The two loosing teams in the A play off semi final will receive a third place trophy and bronze medals during halftime of the final in their class. A trophy is awarded the best club. Points are awarded as follows:

  • 1st place in the preliminary group 1 point.
  • Victory in an A play-off game 1 point.
  • Victory in an A play-off semi-final or final, 2 points.
  • Top three teams per club are only counted.
  • By equal points the club with fewer teams taking part wins.

Cancelation of the tournament and Force Majeure

In the event that the tournament can’t be held or is postponed due to events beyond the control of the tournament organizers (force majeure*) or due to events which are not attributable to wrongful intent or gross negligence or the tournament organizers, the tournament organizers cannot be held liable by the delegations for any damages, costs or losses incurred, such as transportation costs, accommodation costs, costs for additional orders, financial losses etc. Under these circumstances, the tournament organizers reserve the right to either retain the entire registration/accommodation fee and to use it for a future tournament, or to reimburse the delegations after deducting costs already incurred for the organization of the tournament and which could not be recovered from third parties. *The Gothia Cup China is in no way responsible for injury or economic loss which may arise in the case of war, warlike events, civil war, revolution or civil disturbances or because of the actions of the authorities, strikes, lockouts, blockades or similar events.

Entry & Payments

The time of your registration counts from the day we receive the registration fee. The registration fee must be paid within 30 days of submitting the registration online. Accommodation fee must be paid no later than June 10th  2017. Otherwise, we can not guarantee your participation. For hotel see your booking confirmation. All payments need to be done to Gothia Cup China bank account.

Once we receive the payment of your registration fee we will confirm your registration.

Note that all bank transaction fees have to be paid by the teams in Euro or USD. Please noted that we do not accept any personal or company check. 

Important dates

Octobor 31: Online registration form for next year’s tournament opens.
June 10: Last date for the accommodation fee/participation fee for all participants who stay in a school, a hotel or other. Both leaders and players pay this fee. You can cancel players until June 10, after that a doctors certificate is required.
July 10: Final date for payments of extra orders as extra Gothia Cards, extra Leaders Card, special food or meal cards. Also the deadline to cancel a player.  After that a doctor’s certificate is required.
August 12: Arrival day, no matches are played.
August 13: The Opening Ceremony.
August 14: The matches begin. 
August 19: Finals.
